A CREDITON woman was recently thrilled to receive a birthday card from the King on her 100th birthday.
Alison Grant, known by most as Elsie, was born in Crediton on September 1, 1923.
Her niece Jill Courtney explained: “She lived all her life in Crediton except in the War when she was called up to make aircraft parts for Spitfires.
“She met and married my Uncle, Reginald Grant in 1952.
“She worked in the Red House sweet shop in Exeter for many years and also in the Hospiscare shop in Crediton.
“She lived in Buller Road for many years.
“My Aunt had two brothers, my Dad Reginald Boddy, and William Boddy, and also a sister Ivy Boddy, who have all since passed away.”
The card from the King reads: “My wife and I are so pleased to know that you are celebrating your 100th birthday on September 1, 2023.
“This brings our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on such a special occasion.”
The card is signed by both the King and Queen Camilla.
Jill added that her aunt has not been well recently but is now living at the Langford Park Care Home.
