“HELLO” from Newton St Cyres Young Farmers! We hope that you are all keeping well.

Despite lockdown, we have remained busy during the last few months.

We have continued to provide a programme of activities for our members, including holding virtual meetings, quizzes and bingo nights. Unfortunately, Devon YFC had to cancel this year’s show and sale, however, they still managed to run it virtually by asking members to take photographs of their stock that they had reared during the year.

A few of our members competed and their stock was judged against stock from other members within Devon.

Additionally, some members took part in a virtual stock judging competition against other members across the county with great success!

One of our junior members, Lily May, came first in both the Novice and Junior categories.

Some of our members have also taken part in national competitions, for example, the “Green Fingers Challenge” where our Vice Chairman, Catherine White, came first.

Due to the current situation, we have been unable to go ahead with our original fundraising plans for this year.

Instead, we came up with the idea of “Mission Club to Club”, which involved walking and running the distance between every YFC club in Devon (400 miles).

Although we had set ourselves the challenge of completing this in seven days, from June 1 to 7, we managed to reach 400 miles on day six.

Members, past and present, covered a total of 524.97 miles and raised more than £1,000 for our three chosen charities for this year; The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Cancer Research UK.

Thank you to all members who participated in this challenge and to those who donated to this worthwhile cause.
