THE residents of the village of Broadwoodkelly, near Winkleigh, have launched their own community website: www.broadwoodkelly.org.uk to address the changing face of communication.
The villagers say the site is to inform the community and encourage participation at local events, including the chapel, church, village hall and to act as a notice board to other events.
The website also has the opportunity for Broadwoodkelly parishioners to place their own notices for work wanted, situations vacant, items for sale, local businesses and items needing new homes.
It also provides an invaluable platform for Broadwoodkelly Parish Council to publish its minutes of meetings and public notices.
A launch afternoon on Saturday, July 1, saw children designing and flying their own kites.
Each contained a special message for the month of their birthday which will be displayed online each month to encourage ownership of the site by the younger members of the village and to get the older members of the families to view.
Each person designed their own bookmark as a reminder of the event which they took home and used. This was followed by a traditional Broadwoodkelly tea.
The website has been developed with consultation from Broadwoodkelly organisations and generously funded by the Parish Council and residents.
The official opening with a presentation on what the site offers, was broadcast live on social media.
