CREDITON Parish Church will be observing Baby Loss Awareness Week in the second week of October.
Every parent reacts differently to the agony and heartbreak of losing an unborn, or young, baby and trying to accept and come to terms with it presents a continuing challenge.
Recognising this, the Parish Church invites all who would like to, to come to the Lady Chapel in the Church between 7pm and 8pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings, October 10, 11 and 12 respectively, or on Saturday, October 14 between 11.30am and 12.30pm.
There will be an opportunity to write the baby’s name on a card, to be placed in a basket on the altar, and to light a candle in his or her memory.
All the names will be remembered before God at the 9.30am service of Holy Communion the following Sunday, October 15.
One or two staff will be present, with a member of the Bereavement Visitors Team, to provide support and any help needed.
In arranging these times, the Church hopes to provide a quiet space in which to think, remember, and pray.
The week is arranged annually by SANDS, the Miscarriage Association, the Lullaby Trust, Bliss and Tommy’s, supported by nearly 90 other organisations. This Alliance of charities, working throughout the UK, aims to support individuals and families in their grief, anger and disappointment.
To have suffered a failed pregnancy or lost a baby around or after birth, is a most profound loss which can cause enormous distress.
Many buildings and well-known iconic landmarks will be illuminated in blue and pink to mark the event and to show solidarity and empathy with those who grieve
Please contact the Parish Office if you have any questions. It is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, telephone 01363 773226.
