ON the last day of term, the Boniface Centre Babies and Toddler Group at Crediton turned the day into a party for leavers who were going on to Primary School, five to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Hayward’s and three others going elsewhere.

Babies and Toddlers takes place in the Boniface Centre every Thursday afternoon during school term time from 2pm to 4pm.  It is run by Crediton Parish Church and has been going for more than 20 years.

Led by Antonia Tregenza with Tracey Jones who is in charge of coffee, tea and snacks, they are always looking for volunteers to help.

Antonia said: “We have a soft play area for the babies and four tables of activities - usually playdough, colouring, craft, and puzzles.

“It is free for all under pre-schoolers plus a parent/career ... although we welcome donations!  We cater for mild special needs.

“The most popular activities are the cars and singing.  Some of the children also take part in the Crib Service on Christmas Eve. We decorate a tree for the Christmas Tree Festival and our pictures/craft are on display in Holy Cross Church.

“For the end of term we asked the leavers what they most wanted to do, and the answer was 'make gingerbread', so we made gingerbread men and gingerbread camels, baked them, iced them ... and ate them, although some were taken home as presents for siblings.”

In the summer when it is warm enough they go outside to play in the paddling pool and make bug hotels and shelters for their toys.

The Babies and Toddlers Group is very grateful for support from the Boniface Centre and Holy Cross Church.

They will begin again on Thursday, September 14.  Further information from [email protected] .
