BOW Parish Church bellringers are celebrating after winning an impressive collection of trophies in bellringing competitions during the past year.
Linda Steer, one of the ringers, explained: “At Bow we are an active tower.
“We took part in 18 competitions across Devon, and at a competition held in Moseley, Birmingham, where we came third in the National Six Bell, competing against teams like Birmingham, Cheltenham, Moseley, Kingsteignton and Tiverton, to name a few.
“There were 13 teams in total, six from Devon and seven from across the rest of the country.”
“The trophies in the photo are from the following competitions: Ide – Stanley Moore Memorial Cup, North Devon Qualifier – Arnold Cup, Stoke Gabriel – The Bill Hine Memorial Cup, Dunsford – The Dunsford Church Senior Cup, Drewsteignton – Devon Church Bells Restoration Trophy, Tedburn St Mary – Shilston Memorial Shield and Kingsteignton – Kitchener Avery Trophy (this was an eight bell competition).
“If anyone is interested in learning a new skill, or wants to find out more about ringing, please come along to our practice night at Bow on a Wednesday evening, or contact your local tower. You do not have to be a church goer to learn to ring bells.”
