POLICE are appealing for two boys who may have witnessed a serious sexual assault in Uffculme to come forward.

Officers were called at around 3.40pm on Friday, April 18 after a reported assault on a female by a man in Bridge Street.

An 18-year-old man from Tiverton has been arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault on a female and malicious communications. He has been released on bail until July pending further enquiries.

Detectives want to hear from two boys who may have witnessed the incident or seen the victim. They were cycling on the bridge or nearby footpath between 3.30pm and 3.45pm but had gone by the time officers arrived.

Officers also want to hear from other witnesses who have not yet spoken to police.
