POLICE are currently controlling traffic near the Dewsmoor entrance on the A377 between Crediton and Barnstaple Cross due to a single vehicle road traffic accident which has resulted in a Volkswagen car coming to rest in a field.

The car ended up on its side after crashing through a hedge at about 4.15pm today, Thursday, May 2.

The driver was treated by an ambulance crew at the scene and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

His condition is unknown.

A recovery vehicle is currently retrieving the vehicle from the field with a partial road closure with traffic controlled by police.

There is an excess of water flowing onto the road surface in the area and motorists are advised to drive with care.
