A GREAT turn out by local people helped raise an amazing sum of more than £2,000 at a pop-up cafe in aid of the Red Cross Gaza Appeal.

Held in Shobrooke Village Hall last month, the village had held a similar event a while ago, raising £1,300 to help Ukraine.

One person there said that the food was amazing and the highlight was the professional story-teller recounting moving Palestinian stories. A great turn-out from the village too.  The story-teller was David Heathfield.

Big bowls of salad were served, seven women in the village made Shorbat Adas soup, a Lebanese lentil soup, enough for 140 people, one person had made 280 bread rolls, many contributed the cakes and buns as well as serving in the kitchen.

Among the many who made a contribution of some sort were Crediton Arts Centre, The Craft Club, Shobrooke Village Hall Committee and 25 local businesses.

Flowers on tables were in jam jars decorated beautifully with decoupage by members of the local craft group.

Outside the hall Mandy Jones, who lives in Shobrooke, was selling plants.  She holds such a sale every year with the Allotment Association for charity.
